Certified Notary Public
Estate documents, successions, authentic acts, and mobile notarizations throughout Greater New Orleans.
What I Offer
Louisiana successions require specific legal instruments that fall within a notary's authority under state law. I prepare and notarize affidavits of heirship, small succession affidavits, and ancillary succession documents for families navigating the estate process in Louisiana.
Louisiana notaries may execute authentic acts - a unique instrument in Louisiana civil law that carries special legal weight. Commonly used for donations, transfers, and binding agreements. Two witnesses required; I can arrange witnesses for an additional fee.
Powers of attorney, mandates, healthcare directives, living wills, and other estate planning documents. I work with estate planning attorneys and families throughout New Orleans and am available for hospital and care facility visits.
Real estate closings for purchase, refinance, and HELOC transactions throughout Metro New Orleans. I work with Louisiana title companies and attorneys and understand the unique requirements of Louisiana real estate transactions.
Acknowledgments, jurats, oaths, affirmations, and copy certifications. Available at my CBD office or at your location throughout Greater New Orleans.
About
I'm Elise Fontaine, a Louisiana-commissioned notary public based in the Central Business District of New Orleans. I have practiced here since 2013, with a focus on estate and succession matters - the area where Louisiana's unique civil law tradition makes our notaries especially important to the families we serve.
Louisiana notaries hold a position unlike any other state: we have broader legal authority, including the power to execute authentic acts and assist with succession proceedings that in other states would require an attorney. I take that responsibility seriously and bring careful attention to every document I prepare or notarize.
I am fluent in conversational French and welcome Francophone clients. My office is in the CBD, and I travel throughout Greater New Orleans and the Northshore.

googleFAQs
Louisiana operates under civil law rather than common law, and notaries here have significantly broader authority than in other states. Louisiana notaries may execute authentic acts, assist with successions, and prepare certain legal documents that would require an attorney elsewhere. I can explain what this means for your specific situation when we speak.
When a Louisiana resident passes away with a relatively modest estate and no real property, heirs may be able to claim assets through a small succession affidavit rather than full succession proceedings. I can prepare and notarize this document and guide you through the process.
An authentic act is a document executed before a Louisiana notary and two witnesses that carries special legal weight - it is self-proving and difficult to contest. Authentic acts are commonly used for donations, certain transfers, and binding agreements. Two witnesses are required; I can arrange them for an additional fee.
Not at this time. Louisiana authentic acts and succession documents in particular require in-person execution under state law, and I focus exclusively on in-person practice.
Yes - I am conversational in French and welcome Francophone clients, particularly those from Louisiana's French-speaking communities or visiting from Quebec or France.
